চৈত্র সংক্রান্তির রাত ফুরিয়ে যেই না হলো শেষ,
নূতন ভোরে, নূতন আলোয় শুধু খুশীরই আবেশ।
ঘুম থেকে আজ জেগেই দেখি ব্যস্ত সবাই কাজে,
বাড়ি-ঘর আর পাড়া-পড়শি সাজছে নূতন সাজে।
বৌ-ঝি’রা সব ব্যস্ত আজি রান্নার আয়োজনে,
ভালো ভালো খাবার হবে ‘সাল পরথম’ এই দিনে।
দলে দলে ছুটছে মানুষ ছুটছে যে বৈশাখী মেলায়,
ছোট্টরা সব সাথে সাথে খুশীতে লাফায়।
মেলা থেকে আনবে বেলুন, আনবে পাতার বাঁশি,
ঘুড়িতো আর আনতেই হবে, নইলে মেলাই যে বাসি।
বড়োরা আজ কিনবে যত দরকারী সব আগে,
বছর জুড়ে নিত্য কাজে, যা যা তাদের লাগে।
লাঙ্গল-জোয়াল, পাতার ছাতা, কাঁখড়াই, পলো, বাঁশের লাঠি,
গাইল-ছিয়া, দা, বটি, শিমুল তুলা আর যে শীতল পাটি।
বৈশাখেরই রৌদ্র-দাহে, পুড়বে যখন শরীর-খান,
দই-উকড়া, তরমুজ-ক্ষিরা’য় জুড়াবে যে দেহ-প্রাণ।
গ্রামীণ বাংলার কৃষ্টির স্বরূপ দেখতে যদি চাও,
চুনারুঘাট’এর বান্নী'তে ভাই একবার তবে আও।
দেশ জুড়ে আজ নানান রঙে নানান আয়োজন,
আউল-বাউল, ছাত্র-যুবা, লেখক-কবি’র নাচছে মন।
নানা রঙের পোশাক পরে নিচ্ছে সবাই নানান সাজ,
নাই ভেদাভেদ কারো মনে সবাই মিলে এক সমাজ।
নূতন সাজে সাজছে দোকান ‘হালখাতা’ উৎসব,
মিষ্টি খাবে, পাওনা মিটাবে, হিসেব হবে নূতন সব।
ঐতিহ্যেরই নানা পার্বণ, হয় যে বাংলায় প্রাণময়,
আনন্দের এই ফল্গুধারা বহুক সারা বছরময়।
বৈশাখেরই আনন্দ-সাজ, সুন্দর-পরিপাটি,
কাল-বৈশাখী আসলে তেড়ে, সব হবে যে মাটি।
তবুও আমরা সাহসী বাঙাল বুক বাঁধি সুখে,
মিলেমিশে থাকি আমরা পরষ্পরের দু'খে।

The first day of Baishakh
When the last night of Chaitra (last month) is over,
In the new dawn and new light, there is only happiness.
After waking up today, you see everyone is busy at work,
Houses and neighbourhoods are decorated and outfitted as new.
Housewives and ladies are all busy cooking today,
special food will be eaten on the New Year’s Day.
People are running in groups to the Baisakhi fair,
The little ones also jumping with joy with others.
They will buy balloons, flutes of leaves from the fair,
Kites must be bought, otherwise the fair is stale.
Older people will buy as much as they need first,
In daily work life throughout the year, whatever they need.
Plow-yoke, leaf's umbrella, wicker-work fish catcher, fish basket, bamboo stick,
rice making receptacle, cutlas (male & female), bombax ceiba cotton and the cool cane mat.
By the sunshine of Baisakh, when the body will burn,
sugar puff-yogurt, watermelon and gherkin will cool down the body and soul.
If you want to see the culture of rural Bengal at a glance,
Brothers come to the fair (Banni) in Chunarughat once.
Various events in different colours today across the country,
mysticists, students-youths, poet-writer's mind is danced.
Everyone is dressed up new with different colourful apparel,
There is no discrimination in anyone's mind, everyone is equal.
The shops are decorated colourfully for the festival of Halkhata (new debt books)
Sweets will be eaten, debts will be paid, new account will be open,
Various festivals of tradition, which are alive in Bengal,
These flows of joy are abundant throughout the year.
The joy and gorgeousness of Baisakhi, beauty of neatness,
if Kal-Baishakhi storm surge then everything will merge to earth.
Still, we are the brave Bengalis tie our soul with happiness,
We live in harmony with each other always.
