কয়েদিটা ঘুর ঘুর করছে জেলখানার আঙিনায়
আনত কপাল তার, নিষ্ঠুর তার চোখ;
বিশ্বাস তাকে করা যায় না কিন্তু একটুক।
সে-ই সাজলো যখন বিচারকের সাজে,
পরলো পরচুলা আর বিচারকের বসন
আদালতে নিলো সে বিচারকের আসন।
সবাই বললো তখন:
‘কী বিস্তৃত ললাট তাঁর, বিচক্ষণ তাঁর চোখ!
কতটা বিজ্ঞ-ই-না দেখাচ্ছে তাঁকে!
বিশ্বাস তাঁকে করা যায় সবটুক’।

বিচারকের আসনে আসীন আদালতে বিচারক
বিস্তৃত ললাট তাঁর, বিচক্ষণ তাঁর চোখ
বিশ্বাস তাকে করা যায় সবটুক।
তিনিই সাজলেন যখন কয়েদির সাজে,
পরলেন পোষাক কয়েদির ভঙ্গিমায়
ঘুর ঘুর করতে লাগলেন জেলখানার আঙিনায়
সবাই বললো তখন:
‘কী আনত কপাল তার, নিষ্ঠুর তার চোখ!
কতটা বোকা-ই-না দেখাচ্ছে তাকে!
বিশ্বাস তাকে করা যায় না কিন্তু একটুক’।
