আমি দুঃখিত
আমাদের দিন রাত্রিগুলোর মতো
যারা দেখে মানবের অনাহার,
বৈষম্য, অন্যায় আর নিপীড়ন ।
আমি দুঃখিত
এ পৃথিবীর নদীদের মতো
যারা জল দিয়ে গ্রহন করে আমাদের বিষ।
আমি দুঃখিত
আকাশ বাতাস অরণ্য আর পাহাড়ের মতো
আমাদের জন্য নিশ্বাস সৃষ্টির বদলে
যাদের করছি আমরা শ্বাসরোধ।
আমি দুঃখিত
মাটি ও সমুদ্রের সব প্রাণীদের মতো
মানবের সেবায় যারা পেয়েছে
বিশ্বাসঘাতকতা আর বিলুপ্তি।
আমি দুঃখিত
আমাদের ধর্মগ্রন্থগুলোর মতো
যেগুলোর শান্তির পৃষ্ঠায় পৃষ্ঠায়
আমরা ঝরিয়েছি শুধু হানাহানির রক্ত ।
আমি দুঃখিত
এই পৃথিবী আর ঐ স্বর্গের মতো
যারা দেখে তাদের শ্রেষ্ঠ মানব জাতি
সত্যিকারের শান্তির পতাকাটি
আজ পর্যন্ত বিশ্বব্যাপী উড়াতে পারেনি ।

"I am sorry"
I am sorry
like the days and nights of our lives
those having to witness
human hunger, discrimination,
injustice and oppression.
I am sorry
like all the rivers of the world
those giving lifesaving water
intakes our poison.
I am sorry
like the sky, wind, forests, and the mountains
they help us breathe, but in return,
we are choking them.
I am sorry
like all the other living things on earth
and in the seas
for their service to mankind
they receive betrayal and extinction.
I am sorry
like all our holy scriptures
we stain their page after page of peace
with the blood of our violence.
I am sorry
like the earth and the heavens
whose greatest human race
failed to fly yet a true flag of peace
for all the nations of the world.
