সবচেয়ে বেশি শক্তিশালী।
হিম ও শীতল বায়ুকে পরাভূত করে
যে দৃঢ়ভাবে স্বীয় পতন প্রতিরোধ করে।
বিড়ালছানার ন্যায় ক্ষীণ দুর্বল
এক চপলা এসে
এমনই এক ‘শেষ পাতা’কে ভালবেসে
আলতো করে ছিঁড়ে নিল।
তার সযতন প্রচেষ্টার ফসল, সেই
পাতাটিকে সে ধুয়ে মুছে রেখে দিল
তার পুষ্পডায়েরীর পৃষ্ঠার সঙ্কোচনে,
যেখানে পাতাটি চিরতরে রয়ে যাবে।
শীতের কবলমুক্ত হয়ে আদৃতা পাতাটি
ডায়েরীর প্রথম পাতায়
গর্বের স্থান পেয়ে খুশি হলো,
গাছের শেষ পাতা হয়ে যে একদা বেঁচে ছিল!
